CHARDONNAY Kaaimangat *201614.70
The Kaaimansgat or Crocodiles Lair vineyard is hidden in the Elandskloof Valley near the village of Villiersdorp, just eighty kilometres from Hermanus. At 700 metres above sea level, our vines ripen a month later than other Cape Chardonnays and benefit enormously from cool autumn temperatures. Deliberately unirrigated, they produce small berries of high skin to juice ratio, which adds an extra flavour component to this superior wine. Deliciously complex and rich in fruit flavours, this wine offers an expanded taste expression. Gooseberry, sweet melon, jasmine and rose petal all combine to build on layers of a taste discovery. The nutty and creamy components will develop over time, enhancing the flavour with ageing.

AMARULA CREAM (700ml) *NV12.10
Once the Marula fruit is perfectly sun-ripened, each one is gently hand-gathered. First, the fruit is de-stoned, its flesh crushed and the pulp fermented. After fermentation, the Marula ‘wine’ is distilled and aged in French oak barrels for at least two years, during which wood spice characters of vanilla and toast are naturally imparted. Thereafter dairy cream is infused to give Amarula its rich, velvety texture. Only then this little piece of Africa is bottled. Amarula is best served over ice and preferably, with a view.

VIN DE CONSTANCE (500ml) *201165.85
The long, warm and dry summer of 2011 created ideal conditions for the raisining of the Muscat de Frontignan grapes whilst still on the vine. In these conditions it was harvested in numerous batches with each of them being harvested and sorted by hand. These various pickings were kept separately, then blended together after a long fermentation to create and ensure the perfect balance of its key components; sugar, acid and alcohol. Wonderfully bright on both the nose and palate. Concentrated flavours of apricot and orange zest with aspects of frangipani flowers abound. Mouth filling yet clean and focussed, the wine tapers into a rich luscious finish.

RUBICON (Magnum 1,5l) *201447.70
The 2014 Rubicon displays the restraint and elegance of the cooler vintage. Still showing a very deep, youthful colour, and intense almost purple hue. Beautifully perfumed and floral nose with violets, ripe plum, cedar wood and intense spiciness. A typical liquorice note and stony minerality also evident on the nose. The palate is medium bodied, structured by beautifully sleek, ripe tannins which restrain the vibrant delicate fruit typical of this vintage, giving the wine an opulent texture which is kept focused by the linear acidity. The wine lingers on the palate with creamy fruit mouthfiilling tannins and will develop over 15 - 20 years in ideal cellar conditions. Blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot.

RUBICON201623.80
2016 Rubicon shows great charm and drinkability even at this early stage, no doubt a result of the high Merlot and Cabernet Franc composition. Wonderful exotic aromas of plum, sandalwood and perfume, still with a touch of creamy vanilla. The palate is medium bodied with a forward dark fruit flavour of cassis and mulberry followed by a lithe tannic structure fleshed out with juicy fruit. The impression is one of litheness and grace rather than over-arching power. The wine was barrel aged for 16 months in 55% new Nevers oak, 25% second fill barrels and the remaining 20% in older French oak barrels. The blend is composed of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and will develop nicely over 15 - 30 years, provided wine is stored in ideal cellar conditions.

Meaty, tannic and backward, this is a wild, savoury wine, more in the style of a Cornas than a Côte Rotie. It needs time, but the oak is beautifully done here, framing the wine to perfection.
